Issues for PC users

One of the more frustrating parts of having a highly graphic-centric web site is that PC and Macintosh systems handle the display of graphics differently. Without going into great detail, images which appear fine on my computer (a Mac) will typically appear too dark on a PC. If I was to correct them so that they look right on a PC, they they'd look too bright on a Mac! There is no easy way around this.

As this web site is made on a Mac this problem is most likely to rear its badly-calibrated head on PC systems, although the ICC profiles mentioned below should go some way towards alleviating this issue.

If most of the images still appear too dark, the best thing I can suggest is that you play around with the brightness and contrast controls on your display until they look right. Remember to note down what your 'normal' settings are.

Colour-matching

All of the full-size images now contain an embedded ICC profile, which describes the calibration settings of the equipment used to make the images, ie: my computer.

For systems which take advantage of this (such as Internet Explorer 5.0 on the Mac, using ColorSync) this should produce a worthwhile improvement in the accuracy of display of the images on this site. For older systems, or users who have turned off colour-matching in their browsers, there should not be any side-effects due to the presence of these profiles.
